Kunafa Trifle

If you thought dessert couldn’t get better than Kunafa… think again. We’re taking that golden, crispy goodness and layering it up into a Kunafa Trifle – creamy, crunchy, spiced, and totally next level.

This isn’t just dessert – it’s a full-on experience. With velvety custard, crushed Lotus biscuits, a cinnamon sugar syrup, and a pistachio crunch – it’s pure magic in every spoon.


🍯 Ingredients:

Kunafa Base:

  • 1 pack Kunafa dough (shredded phyllo pastry)
  • 3 tbsp melted ghee or butter
  • 5–6 Lotus biscuits, crushed

Custard Layer:

  • 2 tbsp corn flour
  • 1 tbsp instant custard powder
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Syrup:

  • 1 cup water
  • ½–¾ cup sugar (adjust sweetness to taste)
  • 3 cinnamon sticks

Topping:

  • 1 cup crushed pistachios (roasted is best!)

🍮 How to Make It:

  1. Start with the syrup:
    In a saucepan, combine the water, sugar, and cinnamon sticks. Let it simmer for 10–15 minutes until slightly thick. Set aside to cool.
  2. Prepare the custard:
    In another pot, whisk milk, sugar, corn flour, custard powder, and vanilla together. Heat gently while stirring constantly until thick and creamy. Turn off heat and let it cool a bit.
  3. Get the kunafa ready:
    Break the kunafa into small pieces, mix with melted ghee and the crushed Lotus biscuits. Toast lightly in a pan (or bake for 10–15 minutes at 180°C) until golden and crispy.
  4. Layer it up:
    In a trifle bowl or dessert glasses, layer:
    1. Toasted kunafa + Lotus
    2. Creamy custard
    3. A drizzle of syrup
      Repeat the layers to your heart’s content!
  5. Top it off:
    Sprinkle generously with crushed pistachios and a final drizzle of syrup.

Chill for at least 2 hours before serving to let all those dreamy layers settle. Serve cold and watch it disappear in seconds.

  • Want it extra creamy? Add a layer of whipped cream or mascarpone.
